Crosby Chiropractor | Helping to explain Sciatica

The Sciatic nerve starts out as several different smaller nerves. From L4 (4th Lumbar Vertebrae) to S3 (3rd Sacral Vertebrae) in the lower back, nerves exits from level of the vertebrae. These nerves join to form the Sciatic Nerve.

The Sciatic nerve passes under or through your Piriformis muscle, continuing down the back of your thigh. The Sciatic nerve splits then into two nerves when it reaches the popliteal fossa (behind the knee). These nerves are called the Tibial and Common Peroneal nerves.

Sciatica is a symptom of different problems and not the true diagnosis. You could suffer with Sciatica because you have something compressing your nerve such as a “slipped disc” or tight piriformis muscle or irritation to your nerve due to inflammation caused by degenerative disc disease and much more.

Your Clinicians job is to decipher where the irritation on the Sciatic nerve is coming from and can they do anything to help.

Treatment of Sciatica depends on the cause of the Sciatica and so this can only be discussed with your practitioner in clinic.

Get yourself examined today to find out the real reason why you suffer.
