Shoulder impingement / Rotator Cuff
What is it?
It is a common condition which can happen in any age category. It happens when the Supraspinatus tendon becomes impinged or irritated as they pass through the Subacromial space.
Types of Shoulder Impingement
There are two types which are External Impingement and Internal Impingement.
External Impingement happens when the rotator cuff is impinged in the Subacromial Space. Internal Impingement involves all the other structures within the main shoulder joint.
Signs and Symptoms
Pain on the anterior aspect of shoulder around the deltoid region, radiation of pain down towards the elbow, night pain, pain on shoulder abduction, pain increases through the day.
Management
Shoulder Impingement Syndrome can be treated by using Chiropractic and Osteopathic Technique such as shoulder adjustments and mobilisations. Additional treatment can also be used such as Dry Needling and Sports Massage therapy. After treatment, strengthening exercises will be given to strengthen the Rotator Cuff muscles
